Creating a positive space can be challenging, whether it's in the home, office, or school. We all face days that seem like an uphill battle and have to consciously make decisions to stay upbeat. But why not make positivity the norm? It is much easier than most of us realise to instil joy and uplift our spirits on a regular basis with just a few simple steps! Read on to learn some easy ways you can bring more optimism into your life.
Start with a positive attitude
Having a positive attitude can be contagious, and it can have a profoundly positive effect on those around you. Think about it like this: when someone enters the room with an upbeat outlook on life, it’s like they’re wearing a ray of sunshine around them. It’s hard not to be influenced by that kind of positivity, and it can easily rub off on everyone around them. Happiness is infectious, and when someone with an optimistic mindset enters the conversation, their enthusiasm will often lift the spirits of all in their presence. You can even take it one step further—their optimism may even inspire others to adopt a more positive outlook themselves!
On top of that, having an upbeat attitude can have practical implications as well. For example, when you approach tasks at work or school with a smile and an enterprising spirit, people are more likely to take you seriously and recognize your efforts. People are drawn to those who operate from a place of positivity; they trust those individuals more because they feel uplifted in their presence. Even if the task isn’t going perfectly according to plan, having a good attitude can help keep morale high and foster collaboration among peers—rather than feeling hopeless or discouraged by setbacks.
It’s no secret that having a positive attitude makes life better for not only yourself but also those around you. When you face challenges with enthusiasm and optimism instead of fear or dread, your environment becomes filled with possibility rather than limitation. You never know who or what might be positively impacted by your sunny disposition—so why not give positivity your best shot?
Declutter your surroundings
Decluttering your surroundings can help create a calming and uplifting environment in a variety of ways. It’s been proven that living in an organised and clutter-free space lifts your mood and makes it easier to focus on tasks at hand, while also making it simpler to find the things you need without having to search through piles of stuff. Additionally, decluttering helps reduce stress levels because it removes items that act as triggers for negative feelings or remind us of obligations we feel we haven’t fulfilled.
To de-clutter, start by making a list of the items that are causing disarray and categorise them into four categories: keep, donate, throw away, or repurpose. This will help you start assessing what items are useful and which ones are taking up valuable space. With the “keep” pile, think about how much space each item takes up and if there is a better way to store it in order to make more room for other items such as adding shelves, containers, or boxes. As for the “donate” pile, try thinking about the last time you used the item or if there is someone else who could benefit from it more than you. And when going through the “throw away” pile, think about whether something can be recycled instead so you can do your part to help save the environment. With any remaining items that don’t fit into any category - such as broken objects - consider if they can be fixed so they can serve another purpose down the line.
Once all of these steps have been taken care of, you should now have a much less cluttered space with only those essentials that are actually important to have around. Decluttering your environment goes beyond clearing away physical objects; it cleanses your mind so that you can live a happier and more productive life with fewer distractions around you!
Fill the space with inspiring art
When it comes to creating a space that inspires and energises us, art plays an important role. Not only can art be visually pleasing, but art can also influence our emotions, energy levels, and creativity. By surrounding ourselves with beautiful artwork, we are more likely to stay motivated and productive in whatever tasks we set out to accomplish.
Finding the perfect pieces of artwork for your home or workspace can be intimidating. You may not know where or how to start or even what style would best fit your space. Consider starting by deciding on a colour palette you’d like to use in the room. This will help give you a direction when searching for artwork that suits your style. Also, consider a few key factors such as size and scale of the piece and how it will coordinate with the furniture in the room. When selecting artwork, focus on buying pieces that speak to you personally and evoke feelings of joy and positivity each time you look at them. Be sure to take your time when selecting artwork as this is an investment in both money and emotions—in most cases, this isn’t something you want to rush through!
Once you have selected all of your pieces, make sure they are hung properly according to their size and shape so they become part of the overall aesthetic of the room rather than just mere decoration. Hang them at eye level so they draw attention when entering the space; this is especially true if there is seating in front of them (which is often the case). If possible, try using multiple smaller pieces instead of one larger piece for added visual depth. Lastly, don’t be afraid to mix styles! You don’t always have to stick to one particular style or era—mixing different styles can help create an interesting dynamic in any given space.
Incorporate plants into the mix
Houseplants are the perfect way to bring life into any living space, whether it be a home or an office. Not only do houseplants provide us with a beautiful aesthetic, but they also offer numerous health benefits. Studies have shown that having plants in our living spaces helps to reduce stress and improves air quality by filtering out harmful toxins from the air we breathe. Additionally, houseplants help to boost our moods and increase productivity levels.
When selecting plants for your home or office, it’s important to consider factors such as light and temperature requirements, as well as the size of your space. For rooms with bright natural light, some great options are spider plants, aloe vera plants, begonias, and fiddle leaf figs. Those with lower natural light may want to look into snake plants and peace lilies – both of which require minimal light and are easy to care for. Many herbs also thrive in indoor environments with temperatures between 60°F-70°F (15°C-21°C). Some great options include rosemary, mint, chives, thyme, oregano and parsley.
If you’re looking for something a bit larger than herb gardens and single potted plants, you can always create a larger scale garden inside your home or office! You can use tall planters filled with soil and add taller plants like bamboo or ferns – this will help split up the space while adding interest at the same time. If you have wall space available you could also opt for hanging planters such as macramé holders or even wall-mounted vertical gardens! These types of greenery walls provide much needed texture to any room while bringing life and colour into it too!
No matter what kind of houseplant you decide on – small or large scale – incorporating them into your living space is sure to make a huge difference in creating a positive atmosphere where you can relax and feel inspired!
Bring in natural light
Natural light is essential for good mental health. Studies have shown that increased exposure to natural light can significantly reduce feelings of depression, anxiety, and fatigue. Furthermore, natural sunlight helps to regulate the body’s circadian rhythm, the internal clock that controls when we sleep and wake up, as well as our energy levels throughout the day. Even if you work in an office all day or spend a lot of time indoors, there are simple things you can do to make sure you get enough natural light exposure.
If possible, try to take regular breaks during the day and get outside in fresh air and sunshine. Even just a few minutes of natural light can help improve your mood and give you more energy throughout the day. If it’s not possible to go outdoors regularly, try opening up curtains or blinds on windows closest to you so that some sunlight can come through while you’re working. This will help brighten up your space and boost your mood naturally. Additionally, try rearranging furniture near windows or adding mirrors on walls close to windows to reflect more natural light into your home or workspace.
So if you want to stay healthy and happy mentally, be sure to get enough natural light every day!
Practice gratitude and mindfulness
The practice of gratitude and mindfulness can be incredibly powerful in our daily lives. Expressing gratitude helps us to appreciate what we have, while also allowing us to cultivate a more positive attitude. When we take the time to recognize and appreciate all the good things we have in our lives, we are able to cultivate an overall feeling of contentment that can help us make better decisions and lead healthier lives. Mindfulness is closely related to gratitude, as it encourages us to stay present in each moment and observe our thoughts and feelings without judgement or attachment. Being mindful helps us become aware of how our thoughts affect our emotions, behaviour and wellbeing.
To effectively practise gratitude and mindfulness on a daily basis, it’s important to find habits that work for you. Some examples include writing down three things you are grateful for each day, taking a moment to pause throughout your day and notice your breath or surroundings, or setting aside some time each day for meditation or yoga. It’s also helpful to be intentional with your thoughts—for example, try replacing negative self-talk with positive affirmations or reframing difficult situations in a more optimistic light. Ultimately, remember that no matter how small the change may seem at first, being mindful of your thoughts and expressing gratitude can create big changes in your life over time.
By following these simple tips and tricks, you can change your mindset and create a more positive living space for yourself – it’s really that easy. All it takes is a little bit of effort to declutter your surroundings, fill the space with inspiring art, bring in natural light, incorporate plants into the mix, practice gratitude and mindfulness on a daily basis.
